Fort Centre Riding for the Disabled Association Branch Maghera

sponsored by SPX Fundraiser

By Michael McConway

On Thursday February 2, representatives from local Fort Centre Riding for the Disabled Association, Maghera, received a donation of £491 from the current St. Pius X College Student Leadership team, following their recent non-uniform day fundraiser aimed at mustering a fighting fund to bolster the activities of the organisation.  Fort Centre, officially opened by former Olympic gold medal winner Dame Mary Peters in 1982, is maintained by a team of dedicated volunteers who put the care and welfare of the people who use the facility to the fore, organising riding activities to provide essential therapy, achievement and enjoyment to local people with disabilities. Indeed the committed approach of local volunteer staff has helped the centre to become highly regarded as a model for other disabled riding associations across the UK. St. Pius X Head Boy Ciaran Burns, longstanding RDA volunteer at Fort Centre, states that ‘this donation will be invaluable in helping to maintain the good work of the association, providing a pool of funds to purchase stocks of hay and feed for our horses, pay vet bills and acquire new equipment.’
