Year 14 St Pius X College volunteer in Ethopia: ‘Hope and a Future’

‘Hope and a Future’ is a Northern Ireland registered charity, based in Randalstown, which was founded in 2007 in response to seeing, first-hand, the impoverished lives of many thousands of children in the town of Shashemene, Ethiopia. ‘Hope and a Future’ re-sells donated items which are in good condition, so others can benefit by the very affordable prices. The Northern Ireland board of Hope and a Future now liaises with its Ethiopian counterpart to discuss and develop the most effective ways of positively impacting the local community.

In St. Pius X College, Year 14 students Leona and Katie, will travel with the charity in August, to volunteer in educational projects.  The students organised a ‘crazy socks and tie day’ with students and staff.  A total of £850 was raised – a true credit to these dedicated and committed students.  We wish Leona and Katie every success during their summer volunteering.

Leona, (Deputy Head-Girl) commented, 'Katie and I are so grateful and privileged that our school came together to raise such a large amount of money for our trip to Ethiopia. We would like to take this is opportunity to thank each person for their generosity and participation, thank you!'
