Brock Shield Champions 2013

St Pius X College became Brock Shield Champions yesterday by beating a very competitive St Patrician High School Carrickmacross.  The game was held in Dungannon and despite a swirling wind but teams performed at a very high level.  Conditions were a little soft however the St Pius X team stuck to their game plan and ran out clear winners.

St Pius X got off to a great start with points from Moortown star man Conan McLernon.  Carrickmacross responded well however the St Pius boys proved to be a very focus and determined team to stay on top.  With every player working to their best St Pius X went into the half 4 points clear at 0-6 to 0-2.

The second half started to tell a different story as Ronan Young found the net early, Carrickmacross responded well with a goal moments later and raised their work rate to have the sides level with 10 minutes to go.  However with leaders in Patrick Coney, Conor Maunsell, and Oisin Duffin, the St Pius boys started to make the come back.

With a succession of points from the St Pius lads, and key forwards Caolan Devlin and Conan McLernon controlling the play, they soon rushed into a 6 point lead with 3 minutes remaining.  This did not satisfy the passion of the team to win as Jack McGuigan broke free 2 minutes from time to drive the ball to the roof of the net after a 40 yard run.

Congratulations to all boys involved as this season saw a committed bunch of players pull together to achieve success.
