In recent weeks the EcoSchools committee in St. Pius X College has been extremely busy recycling, managing their waste and developing environmental awareness in the College and the local community. Eimear, a Year 9 student recently participated in the NI final of the 2010 Environmental Youth Speak competition. She was placed first in the North West and runner up NI winner. Congratulations to Eimear, her family and teachers.

In addition to recycling paper and plastics in blue bins, all waste in St. Pius X College is now fully recycled, through a new innovative company called RecyCo.
Martin McGirr:
We are delighted to be involved with the school and their EcoSchools programme , helping them achieve their goal of sending zero waste to landfill. We will process their landfill waste through our waste treatment facility in Omagh, which will enable RecyCo to recycle and divert material away from landfill. This will be better for the environment and also help reduce the cost of waste management for St Pius X College.
We are opening a new intelligent waste treatment facility in Omagh later this year which will utilize the very latest recycling technology and will also enable RecyCo to process traditionally un-recyclable material into a Refuse Derived Fuel which will be used as a substitute for fossil fuel in power stations. We believe that this is the future of waste management and by delivering greater recycling and recovery rates combined with cost savings for local schools and businesses we can all help protect the environment in a sustainable way.
We will be working with the school to contribute to environmental studies and science topics and to provide advice on recycling and to arrange visits to our facility. We look forward to working with the school on these projects."
